During my years as an Island County commissioner, Camano Island Fire and Rescue Board Commissioner, and later leading our county's 911 emergency communications system, I learned that the most effective public servants have a few things in common. They listen before they act, treat people with respect, and never lose sight of who they work for.
Those are the qualities I see in Grant Shaw.
Grant has earned a reputation for showing up, listening to people, and working collaboratively to solve problems. His years of service to our schools, parks, and community organizations have given him a deep understanding of the issues facing our county.
The next commissioner will face important decisions that require thoughtful leadership, sound judgment, and a willingness to bring people together. I believe Grant is that person.
I'm proud to endorse Grant Shaw for Island County Commissioner because I know he'll approach the job with integrity, common sense, and a genuine commitment to the people of Island County.David & Maggie Booth, Camano Island
We made Camano our home in 2020 and since have gotten to know so many wonderful people in this community. But, one person who has truly stuck out to us is Grant Shaw.
We have had many opportunities to work with Grant, especially with The Freedom Park non-profit. He made it easy to complete all of the different unique projects for the park.
When Grant is involved stuff gets planned, funded, and completed. We need that action more than ever.
We have always been in awe of the energy Grant brings to the table. The more we got to know him, the more we realize he brings this energy to everything, his family, friends, the park, even work. The energy Grant brings is just what island county needs, we deserve Grant energy.
We endorse Grant Shaw for Island County commissioner.
Jennifer Jewell, Camano Island
I will happily endorse Grant Shaw not only for his commitment to the community, but his love for humanity. After having the opportunity to employee both his daughters, I know he is a family man who has values, plus a love for Stanwood Camano residents!
Regan Olsen, Camano Island
I’m proud to endorse Grant Shaw from Camano Island for Island County Commissioner.
I first met Grant while he was helping the Utsalady Elementary School Booster Club. His hands-on involvement showed me right away how much he cares about our kids and our local schools. He doesn’t just talk about supporting education — he shows up and gets to work alongside parents and teachers to make things better for the students on Camano.
I’ve also seen his deep commitment through his work at Freedom Park at Terry’s Corner. Grant has poured countless hours into this beloved community space. He’s helped maintain and improve a park that was built by volunteers, for the community.
Grant has already done so much for Camano Island. He’s a longtime resident and he truly understands island life — the challenges of growth, water issues, emergency preparedness, and the need to preserve what makes our community special. Whether it’s fixing up Camano’s “gateway” at Terry’s Corner, volunteering at the park, or supporting local schools, Grant consistently steps up without seeking the spotlight.
That’s exactly why I know he’s the perfect fit for Island County Commissioner. We need leaders who are already proven in our community — people who listen, who work collaboratively, and who put neighbors first. Grant has the experience, the heart, and the dedication to represent Camano and all of Island County effectively at the county level.
Scott Lawhon, Camano Island
While Grant and I don't see eye to eye on every political issue, I believe it's important to recognize the character of the person behind the campaign.
Grant Shaw genuinely cares about all of Island County, including those of us here on Camano Island. Too often, Camano can feel like our voice gets lost simply because of where the numbers fall. I believe Grant understands that and is committed to making sure our community is heard.
If you're someone who may not automatically vote based on party affiliation, I encourage you to take a serious look at Grant. Listen to what he has to say, ask questions, and make your decision based on the person, their integrity, and their commitment to serving everyone.
No matter where you land politically, we all benefit from leaders who are willing to listen, represent the entire county, and work for the good of our communities.
Kevin Flynn, Camano Island

I have know Grant for 48 years. Grew up with him as a child, worked with him as a young adult, and kept in touch as a friend and neighbor. During his whole life he has been there to help, fight for what's right, and listen to concerns. He is not scared to jump in and do what it takes to get things done. I am excited for him to be now running for County Commissioner. He will serve the community well.
Nancy Sinclair, Camano Island
I believe that one should have the integrity to stand behind what they feel and think, not hide. Thank you Grant for reminding all of us that we must remain open to growth, new ideas and even changes that we may not agree with 100% but that are the best for our community and our future. Keep up the good work. We need leaders who care about our community.

"Grant Shaw is well suited to be Island County Commissioner for many reasons. I met Grant 10 years ago as a parent volunteer at Utsalady Elementary, where he revitalized the Booster Club. I currently work with him on the Freedom Park Board of Directors, where he has brought the park from foreclosure to fantastic!
Because he has done so much for this community, people are always ready to rally behind him when he needs support.
He has always been an outspoken proponent of Stanwood-Camano Pride and has helped to ensure all of our neighbors are welcome and feel safe.
He is a man who is not afraid to fight the good fight, tackle hard work, and get the job done. This makes him especially qualified for Island County Commissioner."

I've lived on Camano for only 16 years now and crossed paths with Grant a couple dozen times. Seems to me he's a man of high moral character. And that matters a lot. And as a retired Army vet, I respect that he comes from a military family.
Calais Johnson, Camano Island
I believe Grant will make a good Commissioner and represent the people in the district well. I have personally known Grant for 11 years and we have not always seen eye to eye on things but we both have always been able to come good resolutions. I believe he will bring that positive aspect to the people he's representing. Grant knows how to bring people together to get things done. He has worked tirelessly for our community by volunteering in our schools, being PTO President along with many other things including community fundraisers. He saved Freedom Park and continues to set it up for success so that the community can enjoy it for years to come. As a military veteran myself and Grant coming from a military family, I know he values our veterans. I believe he is the right person running for Commissioner and will ensure voices are heard and then follow through to the results of the public input.

I've spent the last few years working side-by-side with Grant on some pretty complex projects, and I've seen firsthand how he handles a challenge. Most people in leadership roles are great at talking, but Grant is different. He actually sits down, hears.
